Dr. William VanDoodewaard teaches European history courses and historiography at Patrick Henry College. Prior to coming to Patrick Henry College he served as a Visiting Professor of History at Huntington University, teaching European and religious history. He is also a Visiting Professor of Church History at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary.
Dr. VanDoodewaard served as contributing editor for a 2009 reprint of the 17th century Puritan work, Edward Fisher's The Marrow of Modern Divinity. He has contributed articles and reviews to scholarly journals including the Journal of British Studies, Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, and Westminster Theological Journal, as well as several Christian periodicals. His research interests include European history (1450-1850), the religious history of Scotland and the Low Countries, British colonial history, the history of Christian theology, historiography, and the history of Islam.
Dr. VanDoodewaard lives with his wife and two children in Loudoun County, Virginia. Licensed to preach, he has served as a guest speaker and preacher for churches in the United States, Canada, and Scotland. Dr. VanDoodewaard's passion is that students see the sovereign grace of God in Christ as the central theme through history, learning to humbly assess and understand history in the light of His Word.
